A healthy performing body depends on correct function of the pelvis and hips to stabilize the spine, avoid disc herniation and prevent lower back pain. The various muscles surrounding the hips and pelvis have multiple functions.

Psoas/Iliacus - Hip flexion and stabilization.

Gluteus Maximus - Hip extensor and external rotator.

Gluteus Medius - Hip abductor (important for single leg movements or running with directional change)

Piriformis/Obturator Internus&Externus/Gemellus Superior&Inferior/Quadratus Femoris - Assist in controlling internal and external rotation.

Hamstrings - Hip extension, knee flexion and stabilization (important role of braking with eccentric contraction)

Quadriceps - Knee extension, Hip flexion and provides a patellar tendon tracking function.

Gracilis/Obturator Externus/Adductor Brevis,Longus & Magnus - Hip Adductors

Single leg exercises demand stability, balance and functionality in the majority of the leg, pelvic and hip muscles. They are particularly great for performance, rehabilitation and injury prevention.
