What Is "Training"?

"Its not the will to win that matters. Everyone has that. Its the will to prepare to win that matters".

Training or Conditioning is the process whereby the body and mind are prepared to reach a heightened level of work capacity and fitness.

This involves five interdependent processes which establish the sports preparation process, specifically:

1) Physical Preparation

2) Learning of Motor Skills

3) Psychological Preparation

4) Physical and Psychological Restoration

5) Appropriate Nutrition

Usually, the first process contains a general phase (General Physical Preparation) and a specific phase (specific physical preparation), with numerous transition or sub-phases (stabilisation, intensification, recuperation, conversion and competitive phases) within, between or after each of these phases.

Depending on the sport, special attention may be given to different types of strength related fitness (such as speed-strength, strength-speed, strength-endurance and strength-flexibility).
