Technical Training

The purpose of technical training is to learn and improve the technique for competition and training actions.

Technical training can be separated into general, directed and sport specific technical training.

General technical training refers to learning exercises that are used to develop general physical abilities or skills, or are used as a method of active rest.

Directed technical training involves learning techniques of directed exercises which form the foundation for sport specific skills.

Sport specific technical training completes the cycle by learning and perfecting techniques of competitive actions.

An efficient technique in both cyclic and acyclic sports is defined by:

1) A smooth transition for all phases of movement.

2) Good rhythm of movement.

3) Accuracy of movement.

4) Predictability of outcomes.

5) Awareness of changing circumstances.

The loyalty to specific tactics, technique, movement patterns or training methods without consideration for their effectiveness or suitability is counterproductive.

The athlete must be ready to change or eliminate any technique if experience shows that it is ineffective or unsuitable for them.
